CantorCO2e Adds Business Strategy Expert Allan Bedwell to Lead Strategic Consulting Group
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CantorCO2e announced the appointment today of Allan F. Bedwell as Vice President and Director of its North American Sustainability Strategies Group. The Group assists clients to build sustainable businesses by helping them understand and manage their risks, capitalize on opportunities, increase renewable energy use, improve energy and water efficiency, reduce emissions and water discharges and finance projects. In light of rapidly evolving regulations, a difficult economy, and customer demands Mr. Bedwell’s 23+ years of business, policy, and government environmental management experience will enhance this venture.
Josh Margolis, Co-Chief Executive Officer of CantorCO2e, said, “our clients are confronted with the challenge of competing in global markets, increasing renewable energy by up to 30%, reducing water usage, and slashing emissions by up to 90%. Insightful strategic advice and precision execution will improve their ability to thrive. Allan’s extensive business and regulatory expertise will help CantorCO2e’s clients to operate sustainably and profitably in these turbulent times. ”
“As governments, shareholders, lenders and insurers demand increasingly aggressive reduction of emissions and adoption of new energy sources, companies need to take action to ensure future growth as well as brand reputation,” commented Mr. Bedwell. “CantorCO2e’s Sustainability Strategies Group is helping clients develop and implement practical business strategies to maintain growth and profitability while minimizing costs and risks. Rather than merely reacting to developments, we help clients anticipate requirements, understand their choices, chart a course, and implement strategies that contribute to sustainable and profitable business”.
“Since 1992, through the use of environmental credit trading, CantorCO2e has assisted clients with their environmental control mandates,” said Margolis. Allan’s experienced background and talents strengthen our ability to offer clients market leading transaction services as well as the ability to develop and implement well thought out strategic decisions.”
Prior to joining CantorCO2e, Mr. Bedwell served as Principal with the Industrial Services Group of CDM Inc., where he led the group’s greenhouse gas, air quality and energy practice. Before that he served in Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s administration as Deputy Secretary for Regulatory Programs and Energy at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, directing statewide regulation of air quality, water quality and waste management, as well as directing statewide energy policy. Mr. Bedwell’s efforts led to the largest voluntary reduction of air pollution in Florida’s history and a nationally recognized renewable energy program. Mr. Bedwell also served as executive vice president for a manufacturer of air pollution control equipment for power generators, manufacturers and vehicle fleets. Earlier he served in the administrations of Massachusetts Governors William Weld and Paul Cellucci as Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Environmental Protection, helping establish the nation’s first statewide NOx cap and trade program and helping lead a thirteen state alliance to reduce transported air pollution.
Mr. Bedwell was also formerly with the strategic consulting firm The Canyon Group Inc., specializing in greenhouse gas management, carbon offsets, energy efficiency, power generation, and air pollution control as well as helping develop and manage the U.S. EPA’s voluntary “Climate Wise” program for industry, the predecessor to the U.S. EPA’s current “Climate Leaders” voluntary greenhouse gas management program.
Mr. Bedwell, earlier had been appointed to the administration of President George H.W. Bush, serving on the staff of the White House Council of Environmental Quality, where he worked on climate change and energy policy. George H.W. Bush launched what many regard as the nation’s most successful emissions trading program when he signed the 1990 reauthorization of the Clean Air Act. During the transition between the Bush and Clinton Administrations, Mr. Bedwell helped launch the President’s Commission on Sustainable Development.
